In addition, members also have the opportunity to get involved working with children as part of the Barnardo’s Young Carers programme. There are a number of different options available for members choosing to participate, all of which offer fantastic, practical experience working with children. In addition to being a great way to give something back to the world, the Barnardo’s Society offers a fantastic way to boost your CV; our work provides the opportunity to gain experience in event management, leadership, marketing, sales, working with children, being part of a team running a business, and much more. • Ultimate Frisbee

Ultimate frisbee is a sport that is growing in popularity around the world. Ultimate is like American football in that to score, you have to catch the disc (frisbee) in the opposing end zone. However it is strictly non-contact and 'spirit' is an important concept as it is self-refereed. Additionally, it has elements of netball as you are not allowed to move once holding the disc except for one foot which you pivot off. Ultimate is exciting and fun and we welcome anyone to come to our training sessions and see why!

If you want to help organise events, or simply volunteer a few times a year, get in contact with us. We have great socials too! • Wilderness Medicine

Wilderness Medicine encompasses all specialities where the care given is far from the availability of more formal help, including; expedition medicine, search and rescue medicine, pre-hospital care medicine, tropical medicine, disaster relief medicine, humanitarian aid medicine, extreme environment medicine (sub-aquatic, high altitude, space) and military medicine. This society aims to promote these specialities and raise awareness of the skills used in management of acute situations in these wilderness settings, by organizing training days and weekends outdoors as well as lectures. Members are also notified of any upcoming courses and expeditions arranged by larger international organizations. The events described are beneficial to medics and non-medics alike and useful skills, particularly for those who lead groups outdoors, will be highly useful.

  • Wing Chun Kung Fu

The Chinese martial art Wing Chun Kung Fu is not your stereotypical style of kung fu. Unlike the old Kung Fu fighting systems, which tended to mimic the motions of animals and lead to elaborate fighting positions, Wing Chun stressed efficiency of movement and simplicity. This makes it an exceptionally effective form of self defence for people of all sizes. Wing Chun is a friendly society, so it is a great place to meet new people and learn to defend yourself and therefore boost your confidence. Please look at our website which has our training details on. If you're interested we take new members all year, so come along and see what you think.

  • Writers' Society

A place for anyone who writes- whether you're prone to scribbling limericks on napkins or spending years on a blockbuster film script or a rhyming couplet version of War and Peace, we take a bit of everything and anything. We have meetings twice a week where members are welcome to bring a piece of work along, read it to the group and get feedback to improve their writing/ polish their ego. Outside of meetings we like to relax and have regular socials ranging from bar crawls and film nights to a summer residential in a cottage somewhere.

  • Have a look through this list and find something for you. There’s getting on for 150 groups, so it might take a while. If you want to speed things up just use hold CTRL and F, it’ll pop up a search function.

(One day, we will have a proper search function but, things aren’t quite finished on this site yet.)

If you can’t find what you want, you could always set up a new group for yourself.
